David Brooks is a blithering idiot.

.
Roe's Birth, and Death

Liberals lost touch with working-class Americans because they never had to have a conversation about values with those voters; they could just rely on the courts to impose their views.

For liberals to "impose their views" would mean forcing conservatives to have abortions whether they want them or not. (although in the case of Brooks' own mother, this might not have been such a bad thing) It's much the same with gay marriage and most other conservative bugaboos. In NO cases are conservatives being forced to do things that are counter to their values. Their moronic claim is that the mere existence of things that are counter to their values violates their rights.

    Exactly.

    The Right Wing appears to define having their rights restricted as;

    Being unable to impose their will upon others.

    If they can't make YOU listen to a prayer, their rights are restricted. If they can't make you look at the 10 commandments, their rights are restricted. If they can't make you have a baby, go to jail for sexual relations, live as singles when you are a couple, THEIR rights are restricted.

    a rather interesting, and deeply warped interpretation of the restriction of rights.

    I can only TELL you about God and OFFER my reasons for proof of His existence. That is free speech. I can't MAKE you believe. That would be an (impossible) imposition. My rights are restricted when I am FORCED by court order or legislation to accept or prefer your ideas of morality, immorality, or amorality over my own.
